Indigenous Youth Leadership Group gearing up for Boileau VeloAdelaide

Brenz Saunders is Team Captain of Pembroke School’s IYLP Team. This will be his second year riding in Boileau VeloAdelaide and last year he supported his team to raise more than $2500 for The Smith Family.

This year, Brenz is  especially determined to increase their fundraising efforts so they can help support even more Australian children in need.In 2013 the Indigenous Youth Leadership Group, made up of students from 5 schools, raised more than $10,000. This is what Brenz had to say...

Fundraising for The Smith Family in the Boileau VeloAdelaide is a cause close to my heart. I’ve seen first-hand the difference that education can make to a person’s life, and I want to help everyone get the same opportunities, no matter their circumstance.

Education is a learning path that shapes the way they you see the life ahead of you. There is so much more to a good education than just attending school.  It’s about having a belief in yourself that you can be the best of your ability, and that can only come from feeling truly comfortable in your learning environment.

Sadly too many young Australians simply don’t get that opportunity because of financial circumstances beyond their control.

The Smith Family is where the first steps begin in changing that.

They support young people in need to get the most out of their education, so that they can create better futures for themselves.

Many of the students in our team know exactly what it’s like to not have access to the same educational opportunities as others – and for us being accepted to the Indigenous Youth Leadership Program has changed that.

This is why fundraising in the Boileau VeloAdelaide is so important to me.

It is a terrific event where students, school staff, friends and the wider IYLP group join together as a team to raise funds and increase awareness about The Smith Family. I know that I speak on behalf of the whole team when I say that it is a really fun day where everyone encourages each other, gets to know one another better and increases their fitness

I urge anyone that is considering going the extra mile and getting sponsored for their ride to do so. There is no better feeling than knowing you’re making a difference in someone else’s life– especially when you’re having fun doing so!

The Dalai Lama sums it up well - 'When we feel love and kindness toward others, it not only makes others feel loved and cared for, but it helps us also to develop inner happiness and peace’
