5 reasons why the new finishing venue rocks - Serafino Wines

This year, Amy's Ride SA has a new finishing venue - Serafino Wines in McLaren Vale - and last week, Bike SA did a little site visit.

It's nothing short of awesome. Here's why every person on a bike is going to love it - and why you should come and join us.

The Vineyards at Serafino

1. It's absolutely beautiful

McLaren Vale is 100% stunning - and Serafino Wines is no exception. The Serafino story began when Serafino (Steve) Maglieri emigrated from Sepino, Campobasso, Italy in 1964. Full of hope, the determined teenager stepped off the SS Roma carrying a single suitcase, the cash equivalent of $20 and very little English.

Today, Serafino own 300 acres of prime McLaren Vale vineyards and an impressive winery. The picturesque grounds boast the newly-refurbished Serafino Restaurant, Cellar Door, four-star accommodation and a gorgeous lake in the middle of it. All it needs is some cyclists to make it even more stunning.

2. You can drink Shiraz after riding the Shiraz Trail

There's something pretty magical about a relaxing glass of red after a ride - and with the Shiraz trail literally backing on to the winery it's the perfect place to sample some fine wine. Serafino's Shiraz is pretty special too - with awards for the best Shiraz at both the Great Australian Wine Challenge and the London International Wine Challenge.

Not a Shiraz drinker? No stress - Serafino produces some exciting Italian-style wines such as Lagrein, Vermentino, Fiano, Sangiovese, Pinot Grigio, Moscato and Primitivo plus the Spanish variety Tempranillo and more.

3. It's got enough space to fit thousands of cyclists

To say there's lots of room on the winery would be an understatement. The lawns of Serafino can fit thousand and thousand of happy cyclists. There'll be no shortage of space to park your bike and spread out those weary legs. Add live music, face painting, food stalls and you've got the perfect ingredients for a festival finish.

4. There's going to be some delicious food.

As well as your free lunch that you get as part of Amy's Ride SA registration, we're going to pack the winery full of delicious food stalls. And if you're in the mood for some gourmet treats, the venue is offering exclusive two course lunch packages for riders (bookings
essential). Delicious!

5. There's Geese!

Serafino is pretty famous for it's iconic Goose Island range of wine. And no, it's not just marketing - the winery actually has an island on the lake called Goose Island, and there's a flock of geese that wander the grounds.

If the geese enjoy themselves, there's no doubt that Amy's Ride SA participants will love it!

  1. There is a full bar close to the entrance area for New York events, so we were covered there too. Dessert was a presentation of cookies (all looked homemade) and my favorite was the white chocolate, macadamia nut.
